Card Information:
Held in: ARROWHEAD POND
Location: CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES
Date/Time: January 18/01 at 7:30pm
**The show begins as 'Mankind Wreck' plays and Mick Foley comes out.**
MICK - Well Califonia, as we are just three days away from the ROYAL RUMBLE, I was thinking
why not show the folks in the Arrowhead Pond a little preview of the ROYAL RUMBLE match.
I thought long and hard about who I should put in this match and I decided on six men,
Chris Jericho, Ken Shamrock and Kevin Nash are some.
But the other three men aren't even in the ROYAL RUMBLE match.....No they are in the WWF
Heavyweight title match. That's right, Steve Austin, Kurt Angle and the Rock will join
the others in the ring for a six man over the top elimination match.
SCOTT HALL Vs. STEVE BLACKMAN
What is it with Scott Hall and opening matches? Yet again Hall opened the show and another
loss as he was unable to defend himself against Steve Blackman's matial arts background.
Following the loss, Scott Hall looked dejected and walked to the locker room with his head down
and his shoulders slumped.
Steve Blackman pinned Scott Hall with the Jumping Kick in 0:09:38.
Rating: **
CHRISTIAN & K-KWIK Vs. M.D.GROUP (Dynamite/Edge)
A fast match that was more like a tornado tag then a regular match as both members of the two
teams stayed in the ring at once.
K-Kwik's Kwik-Kutter (Ace Crusher) put Dynamite down after only a few minutes and as Christian
battled outside with Edge, K-Kwik finished the match with the 450 splash.
However the emotions where still running high and the fight continued between the four men.
Christian and K-Kwik defeated Million Dollar Group (Dynamite and Edge) when
K-Kwik pinned Dynamite with the 450 Splash in 0:04:48.
Rating: ** 1/4
**The fight continues between the two teams but they stop as 'Mankind Wreck' plays again and
Mick Foley comes out for the second time tonight.**
MICK - Hold on you lot, break it up.......NOW or I'll suspend the lot of you.
**Edge & Dynamite step out the ring while Christian and K-Kwik stay in.**
MICK - Now it seems to me that the Million Dollar Group, doesn't get on with Christian and
K-Kwik, so I will sign two more matches for the ROYAL RUMBLE.
The first will be K-Kwik putting the Lightweight Title on the line against Dynamite.
**Dynamite smiles at this while K-Kwik signals that it's no problem.**
MICK - But as for the brothers, I don't know what to do about you two. I mean you fought on the
last PPV and didn't resolve anything so I am putting it out to you. You can make the
stipulations and I'll decide which one is better. Edge?
EDGE - I busted that piece of cr@p open week in, week out so what else but a FIRST BLOOD match.
MICK - Hmmmmmm, good idea. You got it.
CHRS - Hey! I thought you would decide on one after I gave you my stipulation?
MICK - What is it that you want then?
CHRS - Hell In The Cell! I want to beat Edge fair and square without any MDGroup interference,
and this match will do that. Plus I get to take out more damage on his hide.
MICK - Hmmmmm, another good idea. You got it as well. A first ever, FIRST BLOOD HELL IN THE CELL
match. May the better brother win.
TEAM EXTREME (Dudleys & Sabu) Vs. HARDY BOYZ & ESSA RIOS
A six man tag that hinted at the excitement we can expect in the eight man match at the ROYAL
RUMBLE between Team Extreme, The Hardys and Latino Heat.
The match was as you would expect though as Essa Rios and the Hardys similar styles were a good
opposite for the rough and ready style of Team Extreme.
The ending with a disqualification after Lita got caught by the referee hitting the Litasault
on Buh Buh Ray Dudley.
Team Extreme (Buh Buh Ray Dudley, D-Von Dudley and Sabu) defeated
The Hardy Boyz and Essa Rios when Buh Buh defeated Rios by disqualification in
0:21:00.
Rating: ** 1/2
The match between Eddie Guerrero and Tazz was yet another good advertisement for the huge tag
battle this sunday at ROYAL RUMBLE.
Tazz and Guerrero both came close to winning with Eddie's roll up and cradles and Tazz's brutal
Tazplexes. But eventually Eddie was able to take Tazz down with a tornado DDT when he blocked
a Super Belly-to-belly Tazplex. Eddie then followed up with his Frog Splash to barely get the
three when Tazz's shoulder came up after three and a quarter.
Eddie Guerrero pinned Tazz with the Frog Splash in 0:13:49.
Rating: *** 3/4
**Eddie's arm is raised in victory by the referee but Tazz gets up and slaps the Tazmission
onto Guerrero.
It's not long before Eddie is down on the mat and losing conciousness as Tazz refuses the
referee's request to break the hold.
Chants for the Hardy Boys and Essa Rios begin but instead the backstage area is shown and
reveals all three men are laid out in their locker rooms. Team Extreme is spray painted onto
the walls in red paint.
Meanwhile back in the ring, several officials are still having trouble getting Tazz to break
the hold. By now Eddie Guerrero has turned blue and is out.
Tazz lets Eddie go after another few minutes and starts his sadisic laugh as he walks back
stage to the locker room.
In the ring, the officials begin attending to Eddie, Guerrero has not moved in the last five
minutes.**
WWF INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH
CHRIS BENOIT (C) Vs. SHAWN MICHAELS
Michaels had another attempt to win his first WWF title since his return as tonight he took on
Chris Benoit in this Intercontinental championship battle.
Shawn Michaels had a great match against Chris Benoit for this title but it was Benoit who put
a bad stench on the outcome after he nailed HBK with the ring bell when Shane McMahon drew the
referee towards him.
Benoit then followed by with the Swandive Headbutt after the victory to add insult to injury
before he grabbed his belt and made to leave but.........
Chris Benoit pinned Shawn Michaels after hitting him with a ring bell in 0:09:13.
Rating: *** 1/4
(Chris Benoit retained the WWF Intercontinental Title.)
**5.........4..........3............2............1.............BBBOOOOOOMMM
'Break the Walls Down' plays as Y2J Chris Jericho comes out.**
JERI - Well done Ben-Oyt, you defeated Shawn Michaels and all you needed was an ordinary run of
the mill, every day wrestling hold by smashing HBK over the head with a ring bell. I
really must add that to my list of 1004 moves.
So Ben-Waaaaaaaa that means that you still have what I want....WWF gold, namely the
Intercontinental Championship.
BENO - You think you can challenge me? The best damn technical wrestler in the WWF? Hell the
best damn technical wrestler ever. Why should I give you a shot at this belt?
JERI - Why? I think you know why. You know why, I know why, this capacity crowd knows why...
...Hell even that mini-me Zericho from XPW knows why!
It's because I am the ONLY man, you have faced in the WWF that could go toe-to-toe
against you in the technical stakes.
Deep down, there is an emotion in you that you can't deny. ENVY! So why not put that
belt on the line at ROYAL RUMBLE and see who the best technical wrestler is.
BENO - Jericho, I will put that title on the line. I will prove to the world that I have what it
takes when I beat you, a former WWF Heavyweight Champ. See you there.
JERI - Geez, I know I got the match I wanted but you could have put a bit of emotion into that
speech...Chris Ben-Monatome. I'll prove you wrong on Sunday.
SIX MAN BATTLE ROYAL
THE ROCK Vs. KURT ANGLE Vs. STEVE AUSTIN Vs. KEN SHAMROCK
Vs. KEVIN NASH Vs. CHRIS JERICHO
Tonight's main event saw a preview of what you can expect to see on Sunday at the ROYAL RUMBLE
as six WWF Superstars battled it out in over the top rope competition.
The first elimination was Ken Shamrock after he was distracted by Steve Blackman who came down
with what he claimed was proof that Shamrock had joined the MDGroup. This allowed Kurt Angle
to take advantage and he clotheslined Shamrock to the outside where Ken went crazy and began
beating the hell out of Steve Blackman.
Kurt Angle was eliminated next curtesy of Chris Jericho when he tried the same move but Y2J
ducked. Kurt ran past Jericho and turned around to be greated by a Y2J dropkick, the Olympic
Hero went over the top rope to leave four men in the ring.
Nash was the next to go as Jericho eliminated him as well after the Rock Bottom from Maivia. It
actually took the Rock, Jericho and Austin working together to get Kevin Nash out but Jericho
was the last person to touch Nash so he gets the credit.
The action didn't let up there either as Jericho, The Rock and Austin went to work whilst trying
to watch their backs. Jericho was the first to fail to do this after he put Austin in the
Walls of Jericho. The Rock broke the hold with the floatover DDT and then threw Jericho to the
outside leaving two men.
Austin was down from the Walls of Jericho whilst the Rock poised himself ready and lined up
his move. Steve Austin got to his feet and the Rock charged him but Austin dropped to the mat
whilst simaltaniously grabbing the top rope and the Rock went sailing over it and to outside
giving the win to Steve Austin, WWF Champion.
Steve Austin won a 6-man Battle Royal:
x Angle threw out Shamrock after a clothesline in 0:06:01
x Chris Jericho threw out Angle after a dropkick in 0:08:17
x Chris Jericho threw out Nash in 0:10:34
x Maivia threw out Chris Jericho after a floatover DDT in 0:12:16
x S. Austin threw out Maivia after a duck down in 0:13:26
Rating: ** 1/2
